Koi Pond Print

Colby's inspiration for Koi Pond originated from his childhood home. His family raised dozens of koi and he was able to watch them grow in size, color and personality over the years. His family had a few that were 20+ years old that weren't the most beautiful but their grace in gentle movement and common serenity bypassed the basic characteristics. Koi Pond is a reminder that emotion connected with empathy as a whole is genuine. Koi are peaceful by nature, corky and sometimes awkward yet they are still elegant with formative movements that connect to each viewer as if they are tethered individually to each person's soul. Bringing a relaxed calm sense of enjoyment while watching them swim. Admiring the blends of colored textures that are all unique and original. The fish imprints used in this artwork was a channel catfish Colby had harvested during an ice fishing trip in Wisconsin, USA. Before processing the fish for dinner, it was used in this artwork. Each imprint displayed a different movement that would be realistic in the scenario a viewer was looking down into a pond filled with koi. Repainting and cleaning the fish after every imprint to provide ghost koi motions with detailed koi actions. Featuring the fins, tail maneuvers and faint whiskers to provide a sense of naturalism.
