"Fermeture Exceptionnelle" is a sign posted on French shops when the proprietor has run out of retailing drive, or gone fishing. But then the shop would have to be open and clearly this one is not. A once noble panelled door was painted, probably for the last coronation, with a Union Jack. This is now sad and tired. The red has aged to brown, the blue to grey, Britain has shut up shop. Redolent of Jasper Johns' famous "White Flag" (MOMA), I toyed with painting "Gray Flag" but I have decided that that shall be another work of the Chris Walker Armageddon Period, along with "Black Day" and "Stand by to Repel Bo(a)rders". Please note that I have chosen to make this image unavailable to under 18 year-olds. They certainly could not have voted 2 years ago and will not need extraneous reminders rubbing salt into their wounds. They will surely experience enough visitations of "the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. Exodus 34:7. This work is offered as a light-hearted poke at the folly of allowing universal suffrage to those past caring, or caring for.
