ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Lotus is my favorite subject for painting. It represents the most enchanting intention in traditional Chinese art, offering a sense of freshness and vivid vibe amidst the sultry summer This painting, utilizing the "Gongbi" technique, emphasizes precision, detail, and a vibrant color scheme. The Gongbi method allows for an extraordinary depth of color and texture, bringing the scene to life with a palpable sense of realism.

Grown up in China, still imbued with rural charm, I traversed through the Cultural Revolution period where the extreme dearth of spiritual and aesthetic richness left me thirsting even more for natural and human beauty. I studied the gongbi technique with the most revolutionary gongbi painting artist of the time: YANG Ruifeng. Through his mentorship, I incorporated many soft touches into the shapes and colors of my compositions. Moreover, I ventured beyond, exploring more audacious color expressions and embracing a freer color splash technique in the background. Then I left the artist scene, engaged in the printing and advertising business, and cocooned myself in family life. Thanks to these years, instead of pursuing a professional artist career and forgetting my artistic roots, I remained dedicated to viewing life and the changes in China through an artist's eyes. I never ceased to paint, with a focus on the natural world—the sole subject that occupies my mind, brimming with diversity and vitality within the serene and ethereal aesthetics of traditional Chinese art.
