About The Artwork
Great Indian Bustard is a large-sized bird endemic to India. It lives in semi-arid grasslands and has earthy colours that offer it good camouflage in its habitat. This bird was the contender for national bird status in India but lost out due to its name and is now on the verge of extinction, with less than 100 of them left now. I made a trip to Desert National Park just to see the bird live before it disappears completely. I was so moved to discover how this bird survives on almost nothing in such harsh desert conditions. While painting it, I played around with the light to match the image in my head and to do justice to this magnificent bird, disappearing into the desert storm!
