About The Artwork
New growth explodes in spring, buds push through rich soil, warming themselves in gentle sunlight. Optimism abounds as the days stretch longer. Mellow evokes the freshness of this season with its interconnecting soft browns, greens and yellows This work is the result of my interest in seeing the underside of the paint, the part that literally paints itself. It is the combination of a number of controlled pours which are then cut and woven back onto the canvas. This is a very unique painting which is sure to be a talking point. Please note that bumps and ripples are an inherent part of the process. Mellow is fitted with D-rings and wire for immediate hanging.

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
