About The Artwork

The works are inspired by the functionality as well as the craftsmanship that goes into making of a piano which creates variety of emotions, messages and ideas from simple set of rules assigned to black and white keys. John Coltrane has famously said that the main thing a musician would like to do is give a picture to the listener of the many wonderful things that he knows of and senses in the universe. Coltrane was a master of experimenting new form of jazz. Experimenting outside of harmonic structure, sometimes ignoring beat and even a notion of solo. His style called “free jazz” celebrated freedom from rules and structures. Freedom from what is accepted or expected as well as freedom to imagine. Although the works have sculptural qualities to them, the artists insists on calling them as paintings, forcing us to see them as pictures. On the contrary to Coltrane’s comment on providing a picture to the listen, Bojda’s works would give a sound to the viewer of whatever they would like to hear or imagine hearing. Activating the gallery as a stage, Bojda’s carefully constructed paintings and drawings of pianos keys are invitations for the viewers to play.
