Known as Moore’s Law, computer processing speed doubles every 18 months... Off-Grid is a painting created in response to a technological world that may be advancing too rapidly. Moore's law is the observation that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles about every two years. Moore's law is an observation and projection of a historical trend. Rather than a law of physics, it is an empirical relationship linked to gains from experience in production. Society is becoming more afraid of technological issues than they are of dying or of ghosts. Technology is moving so fast that the layman doesn’t have an awareness of what is going on until they are violated through cyber-crime. There is an ever-increasing violation of privacy from information gathering, surveillance and personal information tracking. Identity theft and financial loss and Social media sickness are prevalent. Self-driving cars make life or death decisions, drones and Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous AI, workplace automation and robot doctors are imbedding in our society while Smart devices eavesdrop in conversation, collecting data on human habits. Androids, enhanced immortality and interstellar travel are an inevitable future for us all. Technological advancement benefits humanity, however, what happens if it all goes wrong? The archaic lighthouse represents an outdated navigation system that guides humankind into the galaxy and beyond. Steadfast, dependable and reliable, this basic, near obsolete but functional metaphor remains consistent and trustworthy in a world of new and very sophisticated technology.
