About The Artwork

This longstanding patch of street art alongside the canal in Hackney Wick is soon to disappear to make way for a new development of luxury homes. Colourful graffiti and amusing street art is integral to the landscape of this part of London but bit by bit every wall is being whitewashed and sterilised during the process of gentrification. In order to make the picture more vivid I wanted to involve an element of relief and so I generated the lock gates using a 3D printer which I think really helps bring the piece to life.

Jacqui Harrison is a visual artist from the UK who has exhibited work across the globe from China to Northern Germany. Originally from London, much of Jacqui's work is about the inner city and the evolution of the urban landscape. Having lived on a narrowboat for many years she is particularly interested in the post-industrial heritage of the UK’s canal system. With a degree in Fine Art Photography, her pictures are an experimental mix of painting and photography, often including an element of 3D. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art who went on to train as a secondary school teacher at the University of London she currently works as an illustrator and also as a visiting artist in schools.
