Ophelia's Revenge. Ophelia is not the fragile victim. She is looking straight at the viewer and is no longer looking scared as in the JW Waterhouse original but determined. She is holding a gun. She is out for revenge against Hamlet. She is not on her way to commit suicide, she is on her way to commit murder. This Ophelia for the 21st century post #MeToo. The gun is anachronistic both for the medieval pose and the Victorian era painting, but that adds to the tension.
