Inspired by an interview with Jean Michel Basquiat where he was asked "Are you a painter or a black painter?" Jean replied "I paint in other colors too" I wanted to express empathy to an artists struggle with finding acceptance from his Father , the media , and the art world , despite his success found that Museums like the Whitney did not think him worth the space . Painting Synopsis: : The head with the shark eye to the far upper right represents the journalist sharking the black angle in order to feed a sort of 'white curiosity" of the time , The bird eye is more about flying in with a single vision, the journalist in the foreground overflowing the fish bowel symbolizes being small minded or narrow sighted living in small or cynical reality. Baquiat has many layers of faces under his final mask of black & white oil stick blended with fingers to provide a neutral indifference to the colors of the other heads, the size differences of the elements is to show big thinking and small . The journalist over spilling the fish bowel sits on a table , the table looks like cow with no eye eating weed. The Rainbow is ironic & in contrast for maximum impact next to the words which were drawn lastly to complete the piece . Created March 2017 Materials: Archival 6mm Hardboard Panel. Reinforced wooden back frame and stainless steel hanging wire. Pricing is calculated at $2 per square inch.

Scott is a New Zealand born multifaceted artist with a background in Art history, Fine Art & Graphic design. Scott has created bodies of work and exhibited in Australia , Sweden, France & New Zealand. "Mostly I just dive in and use experience to play with color & form then allow things to become things as the painting unfolds, working in this way the paintings often become more than anything I could have premeditated. At the heart of it I'm searching for Humaness both enigmatic & profound and a hint of the times we are in. I want to give the viewer art that's interesting to look at , something unique and original that's outside of everyday life & completely open to interpretation" Website: sdelautour.com
