VIEW IN MY ROOM
An homage to Gauguin’s ‘Yellow Christ’ and ‘Green Christ’ The story of this piece and how it came to exist is quite personal and I might divulge one day but not now. The location is imaginary but has some references to my home, such as the rock wall. The pink fluff balls symbolise ‘normal’ people. Pink Christ is contained inside a ‘golden rectangle’ (59.9 x 37 cm) with divine proportions applied to the positioning of the focal point as well as the horizon and the vacant sky, which also employs the ‘rule of thirds’. I wanted to explore a pallete of pale pink, brown, some grey and a spectrum of green, because they look great together. The foreground is made of cooler greens (cobalt green) which transitions through the midground to warmer hues of green in the background. I spent a lot of time trying to perfect the perspectives, especially for the cross. I tried to create depth by using less colour and detail in the mid and background and between the fore, mid and background. Overall I see it as an abstract painting, considering the palette, shapes and broad, plain coloured areas, but the symbolism might be considered surrealism idk. It took me about 30-40 hrs start to finish I think.
