About The Artwork

Mt. Dulang-dulang is the 2nd highest peak in the Philippines and it one of the most summitted peaks in the country. During one of our treks at Mt. Dulang-dulang, one of the mountain guides was a Talaandig(local tribe) flutist and he also was an artists who makes bamboo flutes with beautiful intricate designs. He would play his flute every time we stop to take short rests. One of the best moments was when we summitted the peak at sunrise and he began playing and it felt like scene from a movie as the sun slowly reveals its beauty. After that adventure I felt like I wanted to recreate that moment. That inspired me to compose a painting incorporating the bamboo flute and the beautiful view at the summit. This painting was painted using oil WandN, and Nouvel oil paints, WandN mediums, on gesso primed canvas panel.

I am a new self taught Filipino oil painter. I used to draw a lot as a kid, I used to join drawing & poster making competitions but I slowly shied away from art because growing up I had the mentality that art is not a viable career choice. Or at least in my country. So I took a degree in mechanical engineering. Just these recent years I started joining mountain climbing trips with friends to relieve stress from work. The views we get at the peaks & ridges always captivates. This then inspired me to paint & relive those moments thru brushes & oil paints.
