____________________ Portions This work of art is called portions, because from a close view as well as from a distance portions are visible. Each single Portion is a part of the whole. And you become a portion of this painting as soon as you stand in front of the piece of mirror foil. If you look closer, you will be able to see objects in a connection behind the red paint of the biggest square. I drew them with navy blue ink in the biggest square because they are a big part of our life. But the fact of the matter is that we hardly pay attention to most of these objects or use them in our daily life. That is why I have painted them over with red so that they are visible from near but harder to recognize from the far. Portions has an element of a collage because between the painted Squares lives a piece of mirror foil which is having a good time. For aesthetic reasons, I signed in the upper right corner with a ballpoint pen. This makes this work unique because I am left-handed and therefore I usually sign in the upper left corner. Portions is an Artwork which is part of the Reflection series. The artworks of this series have the imprint of my experimentation with the concept of "the Beholder's Share". The beholder share is that an artwork is completed in the viewers mind. The viewer interprets in a subjective way what s/he sees while viewing the artwork. With this interaction with the painting s/he is adding meaning to the artwork. To make this dialog and transcendence with the viewer stronger and more realistic, I cut a mirror foil in the right shape and stuck it on the papers surface between the squares. What I really love about the reflective area on Portions is that it affirms it is about you and there is something about you in it. The white background embodies one of many meanings of the homonym "reflection". White as an image of the interplay of many thoughts and reflections in one’s mind. The water surface as well as the mirror foil embodies the physical definition of the homonym in this painting.
