About The Artwork

This work is part of a series of fantastical paintings I created, that are all based on three imagined characters piloting a space ship together. This work is a kitchy and slightly humorous take on sexual pin-up science fiction art, such as we see around Barbarella. Princess Moxie (part of a team which also includes Captain Maverick and Professor Micro) is in a perpetual state of excitement, bliss and even rapture at the everyday adventures of being an adventuress on a vintage space quest across the galaxy. She is shown here blasting the enemy space pods in an effort to protect Professor Micro, the most shy and withdrawn member of the team. It is my hope that people see the humor of the work and recognize the reference to sexualized bodies in science fiction poster art, but also that they see this work as an exuberant reclaiming of that body and the science fiction realm in which it lives.
