About The Artwork

This painting belongs to the series of portraits I have produced of the famous Spanish bullfighter Jose Maria Manzanares one of which he has himself. The figure is painted in grey tones set with a deep red background. I was inspired by the paintings of Bruce Sargeant and his misterious male figures. I personally have always been drawn to the aesthetics of the bullfighters im drawn to the delicacy of their costumes contrasted with the brutality of their purpose. I hope to express the masculinity of the figure wrapped in the fragile and rich embroidery of his costume. I live in the South of Spain near Ronda, the cradle of bullfighting and could never be indifferent to this part of my culture.

Marcos Terol is an international artist. His works ( oils on canvas ) present energetic movements of colours and shapes, projecting figures and scenes from nature. Focusing in his natural surroundings Marcos finds harmony and beauty in nature, figures and urban landscapes. His studio set in his home is on the Costa del Sol near the ancient city of Malaga. His home faces the coastline, washed by the Mediterranean Sea and nestled in between Andalusian white washed terraced houses and green pine trees. He paints at least 3 hours a day in his studio with brightly lit windows, facing his garden and the sea.
