Birds are magnificent creations of nature, proving that there is no greater artist than Mother Nature herself. Their beauty is delicate, yet majestic, attributes you would expect from royalty. You can see it in the way they walk. You can see it in the way they hold their heads proudly, looking up beyond the clouds. You can see it in the way their eyes reflect the light. You can see it in the way their feathers reflect an endless spectrum of colours that you could not imagine exist. My admiration for these creatures started a long time ago, but the inspiration for this painting came from a walk in a small park in London called Holland Park. There, out in the full view of all of nature, the peacocks were strutting about like their presence was the most normal thing you could witness in a London park. Seeing this, I understood that it was them, not I, that felt true, majestic belonging to nature no matter where they are in the world. I believe that birds’ stories are encapsulated in their feathers and I aim to show this with this pairing. These are the stories that only wind can tell and only birds can hear. For this painting, I used a mix combining various tones of green, blue and orange with shades of silver and gold; I strove to capture and emphasise the beautiful reflection feathers produce. In my painting, I also wanted to portray how nature protects birds like a loving mother protecting their child. I hope this painting will bring you the joy and freedom that only birds can feel.
