About The Artwork

This piece was inspired from an ongoing fascination of caves. This particular idea sparked from reading about the forgotten Mayan Culture in Mexico, South America. The Mayans used natural cenotes ( lime stone sink holes, that were used as sacred sources of water ) to study archaeoastronomy and practice sacrifice . Clarksons recent paintings intertwine the natural world with the nature of paint. These paintings offer the viewer a chance to immerse themselves into an unfamiliar place of wonder and fascination, whilst presenting a moment to pause and be inspired by the reality of our beautiful yet fragile 'One Planet' . Beneath the painted aesthetics, Clarksons practice echo's a sombre tone towards the shifting states of our planet, and how the cost of human intervention is impacting the natural balance of each ecosystem and the flora and fauna within it.
