About The Artwork
The third of a set of three works depicting the old "sawtoothed" Planing Mill, located just off W. Eleventh Street. This work depicts west side of the mill as well lush trees growing near its west side. The late-afternoon sun lights up the both the trees and red bricks of the old mill. This work is in large part about the aesthetic synergy that can exist between natural and industrial objects. I tried to capture way the sun can light up trees, especially in the late-afternoon or evening hours. To this end, I used gel pens with fluorescent green and yellow ink. The finished piece consists of watercolor paper mounted on a cradled art board. I used acrylic gel medium as the adhesive.

A major component of my process is physicality, which includes experiencing a place through multiple senses. The smell of freshly cut grass and the feel of the sun's warmth on my skin, for example, can affect me powerfully. I try to paint my experience, including my emotions and non-visual sensations.
