About The Artwork

Although it may seem otherwise, this piece is not figurative. Some see a mother and child, and if so, it was unintentional, at least on a conscious level. This is one of the most spontaneous pieces I have done, in that I changed only minor details from the initial "outburst" when I just go at it without worrying about the end result. the forms, colours and lines pleased me so much they reminded me of serendipity, unexpected pleasures found in unexpected places. Maybe a late and unplanned motherhood fits into the definition somehow.

Sandy Leslie was born in 1971 in Lisbon, Portugal, to a Portuguese mother and a Scottish father. Her work is mainly abstract, the process very intuitive and the result colourful, expressive, emotional and contemporary. It is Sandy’s choice of colours that most draw people to her paintings, followed by the freshness and naivete of her approach. She has started dabbling in figurative art and intends to further pursue this in an abstract manner as well. “Sandy Leslie is able to obtain both harmony and chaos in her paintings as she sublimates her emotions into colourful abstractions. Her paintings, rich in content both in colour fields, figurative interruptions and stroke styles, literally fills the canvas to its limits and keeps the viewer’s alert attention.” Eivor Winther Sunneson, Director at Drammen Museum, Norway. https://www.instagram.com/sandy_leslie_abstract_art/
