ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Based on experiences, events, meditative visions, and even dreams, this paintings combines human figures with elements of abstract nature in a way that tries to tell a story about existence using allegories of life.   The process of painting is spontaneous and driven forward by the process itself. It shows the process of transitioning from a mundane to a spiritual world.

Tom Voight (the artist's name) was born in Germany and currently lives in Vietnam. Almost everything he has done in life since his early childhood is linked to creativity and art.   He is working as a painter, movie director, designer, animator, and storyteller. He believes that "art is the closest thing to magic he can imagine"   His paintings show the process of transitioning from a mundane to a spiritual world. Based on experiences, events, meditative visions, and even dreams, his paintings mostly combine human figures with elements of nature in a way that tries to tell stories about existence using allegories of life.   The process of painting is often spontaneous and driven forward by the process itself. Sometimes he also plans his work by doing very detailed digital sketches or 3D compositions before he "translates" them into his oil paintings. Those digital sketches help to maintain the basic ideas and compositions, but serve only as a "motor" or "reminder", and the final work can change again during the process.   Every painting starts with a canvas covered entirely with paint. The revelation of the subject matter is more a carving into the wet paint than a traditional painting process. He is using a variety of different tools, or even his fingers, to create those artworks. This style he has been using for more than 20 years is very unique but still in development, constantly looking for new ways.
