About The Artwork

This original painting is one of my dearest works both literally and figuratively. This is the garden of my house under snow in downtown Tbilisi. The climate of Tbilisi is very mild, and it rarely snows. Even rarer that it stays for a few hours. That year it stayed the whole day, as though to allow me to capture its calming beauty. The wonder was double, since it was the Christmas Day! It is really dear to me, since it was the only day when I could paint the garden under the snow, and also the next year the garden was redesigned and completely changed. It is the only picture of my garden as I knew it since my childhood under the snow. Painted on a gallery wrapped canvas with the edges painted white, it comes ready to hang and signed on the front with my initials in Georgian "Z" "Sh" (ზ.შ.). Thank you for your interest in my work.

Hello! Thank you for looking at my art and reading about me! My name is Zurab Sharvadze. I was born (in 1959) and raised in Tbilisi, Georgia and since my early childhood, I have always had a passion for art. My stepmother was the first one to notice it and gave me an easel and a set of oil paints when I was 14. Since then, my easel and I became inseparable. Following my father’s steps, I got my BS, MS and PhD in Nuclear Physics and worked at the Physics Research Institute until the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since the beginning of the 90s, I became the full-time artist. It was also the time of apprenticeship with some famous Georgian Artists like Temo Machavariani. The beautiful landscapes of my country Georgia are the constant source of my inspiration: Caucasus mountains, valleys with vineyards, meadows full of alpine flowers, pine forests, clear lakes and springs, the Black Sea. I also always take my portable easel and set of oil paints, when I travel abroad. From early spring through late autumn, you can often find me painting outside in the plein air in the mountains or the windy narrow streets of old Tbilisi. During the winter months is mostly studio work of still lives and portraits. The great artists that inspire me the most are Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Degas, Mondrian. I participated in numerous Georgian and International Exhibitions. My works have been purchased by art collectors worldwide and can be found in the private collections in Great Britain, USA, Israel, Germany, France, Spain, and elsewhere. My paintings are all original and one-of-a-kind. All my canvases are built up with many layers of oil paints infused with flicks, drips and brushstrokes of paint resulting in a three-dimensional surface.
