About The Artwork

I did a series of still lives using the left-over tools and objects laying around the raw loft space I moved into after grad school and Columbia University. I always imbued these objects with human or animal characteristics and used them to tell stories. This, for example, is the story of a bicycle which has been decommissioned and each part now assumes a new life. It is in pieces, the handlebars upended now look like a figure from the back, its arms supporting it to stand upright, with a very long neck on its shoulders and staring at the bicycle seat, which is kind of like the head. The shape of the seat also inspired Picasso in his piece 'Bull's Head'. There's the orange warning cone to alert to some danger, and other symbolic objects scattered about. It's a humorous painting, like many of this series. I was influenced by Cezanne's use of the brushwork to create planes, which was later expanded upon in Cubism.

Born in New York into a family of professional artists, musicians and performers, creative endeavours have always been a part of my life. Piano and ballet at age 5, drama club, arts and crafts; we did it all. After following an acting program in high school I chose to go into visual art in college, the University of Michigan, from whose School of the Arts I earned my BFA Magna cum Laude. I then went to Columbia University School of the Arts where I earned my MFA. I began exhibiting my work soon after graduation and sold many paintings, both to individuals and collectors. After a prolific and intense period of painting I returned to my earlier pursuits of music and acting. In addition to my paintings, I have produced songs and piano music and am a member of ASCAP as a composer/lyricist, performer and publisher. I am also a SAG/AFTRA actress and have appeared in film, television and theatre. Multi-faceted artist, musician, composer, lyricist, poet, actress, singer
