A few of Singapore's iconic or Heritage buildings around the open grassy Padang are visible or suggested -- Raffles Hotel is out of view to the right, suggested by its row of photogenic travellers-palms fronting it along Beach Road. The red-brick building on the left, one of the old structures of an old army camp, has been conserved. It is now a part of upmarket The South Beach development. The painting's Title points to the old Supreme Court Building - built in1939, now re-purposed as National Gallery Singapore. Its oxidised greenish-blue dome peeps over the trees around Singapore Cricket Club (1852). *** Inspired by: the plight of Migrant Workers around the world. Here, they are taking a break from their equipment to discuss an issue. Made at a time when a smoky haze filled the air in some parts of South-east Asia. ***The title alludes to Environmental pollution and high-level bilateral talks between Singapore and her neighbours about how to resolve the yearly haze situation. Newspapers were used to convey these things: Communication of ideas and info; Progress; Toil & Grit; the Bridging of people & places, and the commonalities among different peoples.
