A woman,, or Swan, bathes on the shores of a creek bed under the moonlight. This is true freedom. Unlike so many who are incarcerated or ill, those of us who have the option to remove our clothes every now and then and experience nature in its true essence is truly blessed. This piece celebrates a solidarity and the time that we can take for ourselves. It’s a reminder to be present no matter what turmoil may be happening around us. One needs to be naked in the moonlight every now and then to really appreciate mother nature and everything she gives us. Many of my friends are in jail right now. They cannot bathe in the moonlight. When one’s freedom is take it away, the process of choosing anything for oneself disappears. One becomes completely reliant on an archaic penal system that eats away at the soul and destroys people‘s lives. I’m campaigning for justice-fairness, and hope to remove the stigma that is attached to ex incarcerated individuals who re-enter society only to be hit in the face with judgement and discrimination. 80,000 Australian adults are tied up in the legal system at any given time. The punishments that are designed to reform, only magnify the problem which are then repeated due to the resulting lack of opportunities resulting from society’s closed mindedness. When you give back people their choice and their freedom with a renewed sense of responsibility and learning, that person will grow and connect with mother nature just like this woman in the moonlight.
