A slower pace of life brought about by lockdown has opened up new ways of working, encouraging a development of practice that I just hadn't been able to find the time to explore in previous months. This new series of paintings are built of delicate layers, each taking around 24 hours to complete to create a lace like texture. It is a visual commentary on how during lockdown we have found the delicacy and intimacy that built our previous lives. What made us who we thought we were, stripped back to reveal a more holistic reality. For these pieces I took inspiration from the audio works of experimental musicians and sound artists, Slow Clinic and Parachute For Gordo. Their layered and textured instrumental work triggers my sound-colour synaesthesia greatly. From this I deconstructed and stripped back to the bare bones of their sound and the synaesthetic experience to rebuild delicate, organically structured artworks. The title is a nod to a dear friend and poet who sadly passed away last year. She always saw the good, the natural and the sensuality in those around her. These artworks echo her sentiment.

Karina Fraser is an abstract artist & mental wellbeing champion based in Hampshire, England. Mountains and travel are a passion whilst her synaesthesia provides a colourful lightshow to the music she hears. Connecting and disconnecting physical and psychological boundaries, these ideas are abstracted into layers; worked together, washed over, to create the calming, joyful and often playful works of art she has become known for. Graduating from Camberwell College of Arts, London in 2004, Karina has since worked as a freelance artist and curator, exhibiting both at home in the UK and internationally whilst working by commission. Most recently Karina has returned from a month long trip to Nepal where she trekked well over 100 miles through the Annapurnas, at altitudes of up to 5500m, creating artwork for those that crowdfunded the trip at the same time being the foil for continued recovery from severe anxiety disorders.
