About The Artwork

Joe Strachan is a Durban-based artist He often makes use of repurposed materials in building his own canvases from scratch. Although most of his work is done in oils, he also paints using a variety of mediums and techniques. Monet, Bonnard, Gaugin and many other impressionist and post-impressionist artists – in their use of colour, experimentation with form, and exploration of light and shadow – continue to inspire him. His distinctive style is a blend of naivety and expressionism, seeking to infuse the narratives of everyday life with personal experiences and perspectives. Joe Strachan's vibrant and lively palette – bold hues, rich textures and dynamic compositions – set out to capture a world brimming with life and emotion Joe’s work was last seen in ‘Reflections’ art exhibition at Woza Moya in Hillcrest, KZN. He has several works currently on display at the Elizabeth Gordon Art Gallery in Durban.
