About The Artwork

A delightful, bright and colorful celebration of the magnificence of nature! Every child is bound to see a flower that is bigger than his face, and taller than he is, for the very first time! This moment is captured by the artist with a hightened sensibility, in honor of the glory that we take for granted. The swirling circles indicate the atoms that we are all made of, and at which level we are all deeply interconnected with everything! This painting is part of the series Living In Harmony With Nature by contemporary artist Dharshana Bajaj. It is based on the concept of Advaita, or Oneness. This is also the premise of the artist’s first book, titled Gaia’s Own: Living In Harmony With Nature. Connecting with Nature is something we innate, all children are alive to it. But “growing up” takes us away from this awareness and connection. Spending more time in Nature, and appreciating its wonders more, will help us all reconnect with Nature. The colorful artworks by Dharshana Bajaj aim to inspire this reconnection. Dharshana Bajaj is a self-taught contemporary Indian artist. Her favorite theme is depicting people and animals living in harmony with Nature, with the awareness that they are not “apart” from Nature, but “a part” of it. Her philosophy about mankind’s interrelationship with the natural world is the basis for most of her current work and the subject of her recently published first book Gaia’s Own: Every Child’s Guide To Living In Harmony With Nature. As in her art, in this book too readers will find an amalgamation of spirituality, science, and art. Dharshana is also a book editor.

Contemporary Indian artist Dharshana Bajaj believes painting is her soul's mission! Her paintings celebrate the “human–nature” interconnection. Inspired by the ancient Indian Advaitha philosophy, and her own spiritual practices such as meditation and journaling, Dharshana aims to depict the “Oneness” of all that exists in her art. Deeply concerned about the climate change crisis, she wishes to raise awareness in the viewer on the importance of “reconnecting” with and bonding with nature, the way our ancestors did for thousands of years before. Dharshana believes that when each of us wakes up to the truth that we are not “apart” from Nature, but “a part” of it, we will start making better choices collectively. Her preferred medium is oil paints on canvas, but she also loves experimenting with other mediums. Her art is colorful, varied, and joyous. While much of her work is conceptual, she combines both representations and abstractions.
