About The Artwork

This work was inspired by the famous book "Alice in the Wonderland". This is my favorite book since i was a little child and i dreamed to visit such place. As years go by i found out that this world is trying so hard to be so rational but, at the end, it's still bizarre and mad. And, may be, the most interesting thing in this book is: "Who is actually mad?". Is it Alice, who doesn't notice all these bizarre things around her, or there is it someone else? Also I’m using specific oil painting technique. Each of my paintings are created with at least three layers. And, by using fingers, paper or fabric, I create a very tiny touches. At the end it turns into something like spider web and makes my paintings look shimmering and illusory. That’s an embodiment of the idea that art is just an attempt to capture the elusive beauty of this world and vanishing moment.

I am Ukrainian artist Emiliia Lynnyk (Liya Lynn). My obsession with art began when my grandfather have showed me a few paintings of a famous Russian Artist Michael Vrubel in my childhood. These bizarre characters and blazing paints blowed a mind of a little girl I was and became my addiction. In 2013 I graduated The National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyev, and since that time started to practice art. Every painting begins for me with some particular idea, impression or question. It can be anything. May be, just a line from some song or poem, or a little detail from our everyday life. And, from the tiny concept, through numerous sketches, it develops into a big story. This is my favorite part of creative process. I’m sure that my paintings are for these people who can see a little deeper and are able insight into the essence of my artworks. Every painting has its own interpretation, but everything that is depicted on it is just a starting point for the viewer. I set direction, but hope that by exploring varies hidden symbols and signs the one who see it, will find his or her own interpretation. And I believe that all these surrealistic characters and forms will help to awake imagination of the viewer, to see ordinary things extraordinary, and to recall amazing and bizarre ideas about world and life we all had in childhood. It’s so important to see the life through the eyes of a child. And not that they see life only in positive way, but because of their unconventional and pure vision.
