About The Artwork
This painting began as a simple summer landscape on a ranch located not far from my studio with clouds, trees, a meadow, and horse stables in the distance. A few weeks later, in dreams, Autumn and the carcass of a rotting ship appeared. The flock of ravens arrived later, also in a dream, which itself may have been inspired by the paintings of Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840). This image is also available as an archival (archival inks and paper) digital print.

I paint oils and watercolors in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Northern California. The images in my paintings come from two worlds: Daylight—the life we experience when we are awake, and Nightlight—the lives we live when we are asleep. What I try to paint cannot be seen, so distinguishing between the two worlds is a matter of only minor importance.
