About The Artwork
My intention was to express the energy with which the salmon throws itself against the flow of the river to reach its goal What propels, compels them? In Irish mythology the salmon is associated with wisdom. The salmon swam in the Well of Wisdom and ate the magical hazel nuts that fell into the water. Fionn ate the salmon and in so doing gained all the knowledge in the world. I wanted to depict the beauty of the salmon's glossy skin juxtaposed against the splashing of the water in a salmon leap as they near their destination only to meet their death..

My introduction to writing was through BBC, The Guardian and The Irish Times. My introduction to sculpture was through Eric Schilsky in Edinburgh and to painting through Mark Ainsworth at Belfast College of Art.
