About The Artwork
I spent ages preparing this painting – the pale yellow sky and defining the leaves by using my left hand a bit of sgraffito (using the end of the paintbrush to draw into the wet oil paint). All just so I could get to the best part, which is painting the thistle heads. I love the wildflowers that I pass on my daily dog walk. I watch them come up, open and fade over time. I gather photos of them in different lights, at different times of the day, to use in my compositions. I used oil paints for their lightfastness and vivid colours.
