About The Artwork

the weather was beautiful last week, so we took a drive, the family and me, up historic rout 66 in Illinois. we had a great time just enjoying each others company (my collage age daughter has been away so we had a lot to talk about). the old "mother road" winds through all kinds of small cities and towns, while walking around one of these I saw this scene in a disused store front window. it seemed to encapsulate the spirit of the old transcontinental hi way and the farming towns it served.

Visually oriented toward the world Will has spent a lifetime looking. Looking at scenes from ghost towns in the desert south west, to Carrier battle group off the Mediterranean coast, from children dancing for sheer joy, to somber processions of grief. Experiencing the extremes of life with thirsty eyes developing there by a visual library of imagination. So much so that the image stacks sometimes comes spilling out in sketches, drawings and paintings. He sees that his subject is life. what is human in the one calls out to what is human in the other in a sort of communication non-locality. Will is grateful to the artists and illustrators who’s works have moved him to “Talk back”. Even if the ideas expressed are at times rather banal Will is working out and strengthening lines of communication deepening understanding of visual communication so when he does have something to say he will have a way to say it. In this respect the digital revolution may also have brought about a new golden age in art.
