Born 23rd of January 1945 in Gjøvik. Live and work in Fagernes in Valdres, not far from the mountains of the National Park Jotunheimen. I live in the house where I grew up, and have made a beautiful gallery, Gallery Hilsen, where I show my works, and make exhibitions. I love to travel if I am not working.I have since 1991 worked with the house as a form, and use it as a motif in my work. I have given the house a metaphorical content, and portray the house as a metaphor of life. The house can be erect, alone, strong , vulnerable, be together in clusters or groups, be upside down, topsy-turvy, in motion, static, and soft. I also seek inspiration in nature for my work, in tree trunks, branches, twigs, buds, roots and leaves, on bushes and trees, and borrow from natures ornamentation and symmetry, disorder and chaos.I try to impart natures patterns and the light that filters in and out of the patterns created by branches, twigs and buds, and in my latest work I have put in a black and white element, which, together with my tight frontal house forms, adds a softer and more organic expression to the paintings.
