About The Artwork
This piece began with an experimental background using acrylic paint on canvas. The swirl effects and coloration evoked the sea to me, so I began to fold origami sea life forms, including a variety of fish, an octopus chasing a crab (each with tiny beads for eyes), a small nautilus shell, a purple shrimp and a tiny starfish. Coral reefs were created by freehand cutting pearlescent papers, and the underwater leaf-vines are an original origami creation just for this piece. I added a scuba diver discovering this little part of the ocean with a final touch of real crystals for the air bubbles!

Born on the West coast of the US and raised in upstate New York State I now live in the American Southwest in Tucson, AZ. Making art was my first love as a child, and art continues to impact my life every day. Although I grew up in a small town I had a lot of artistic influence from my family; my father loved art & played musical instruments, one of his brothers was a professional artist, my mother always encouraged making hand-made gifts and cards, and two of my five sisters are also artists.
