Venus Print

“Venus” is part of the Staged Series, started in 2020. This particular piece explores ideas that relate to the relentless passing of time and how it affects human spiritual activity, the meaning and pertinence of our collective constructs in the field of the ethereal and mythological. The main point here is to put this in-temporal and universal symbol of fertility into a time lapsed perspective. These small objects are among some of the earliest human explorations into the world of art making. Apart from the obvious question of why our ancestors started developing these skills and what necessity drove to create art in the first place, there is the more pertinent question, raised here, that is to try am observe how it would stand by itself on a stage in this day and age, when our most fundamental mystical values seem to be drifting apart from their genesis at a very accelerated speed, due to the works of the evolution of scientific knowledge and understanding of the world and universe, but also from phenomena such as the impact of modern globalization, consumerist society and mass appropriation of cultural values. Technically this work serves the purpose of exploring some new possibilities of paint manipulation on the canvas. It was created resorting mostly to the use of the pallet knife and a larger abundance of matter on the surface, which allows for the discovery of some rather interesting textures, as well as a very specific way that the different colors mix and influence each other, in combination with a tape stencil method, that I have only very recently started incorporating into my practice, which allows for the continuous separation of different elements in the composition, independently from the stage of the development that they are introduced into.
