About The Artwork

People going about their daily lives interest me as I like to capture that moment of their lives in time. I like to add figures in my work to give narration and life to a scene. Baker Street is one of the oldest underground stations in the world and still has a Victorian feel despite the modern technology. The light shades are still original and the massive arched windows with natural light flooding through remind the passengers that this is all of the natural light they will see as they continue the rest of their journey through dark tunnels. Whilst travelling to and from work, changing trains at Baker Street for a number of years I was always fascinated by the trains Victorian character and this fascination never left me. It was always admired, therefore, the need to paint this. I felt watercolour in my unique, bold style would be the perfect medium for this painting to capture all the detail.

As a professional artist I have acquired many artistic skills and techniques which has led to my own unique style of work. Using watercolour, oil and acrylic, my work is detailed and precise, however, my aim is not to replicate a photographic image. By painting a variety of subjects, this allows my approach to be fresh and challenging, avoiding the dangerous comfort zone. However, I do have a strong interest in architecture and people, pushing the boundaries and challenging myself to paint as much detail as I possibly can. This may mean my work can take months to complete, but to me it is very rewarding. I have held several solo exhibitions in London, Watford (outskirts of London) and all over the island of Cyprus. The response to my exhibitions and featured articles in the media with tv coverage in Cyprus and radio interviews have been greatly appreciated. My main commissioned works are portraits of people, pets and buildings. www.toullafineart.co.uk
