VIEW IN MY ROOM
Series: Elemental | Acrylic & metal leaf on canvas | Completed:2012 A desert is beautiful yet at the same time is considered bleak, lifeless and uninhabitable. This artwork is a highly stylised desert, abstracted to it's purist form. The sun radiates from the central focal point, positioned to represent high noon as a white hot sphere with textures expanding into the sky and earth below. Fluid lines in layered textures meander across the canvas, all in the same direction (in unison) and reminiscent of rivers. Using colour these lines represent water (with metal leaf), soil, insects & mammals, plants and overall the essence of an ecosystem (the combination of tides, seasons, winds, relationships and a specie's determination to survive). The desert is a dire warning of the potential consequences of humanities' effect on mother earth as a whole, an illustration of nature's triumph over adversity against all odds, and a representation of how everything on the planet is interconnected.

New Zealand
I've moved back to New Zealand and am taking a break from art :) Originally from a small town in rural New Zealand, Amy moved to Melbourne in 2008 to carve out a career in fine arts and returned to New Zealand in 2019. She has studied design and architecture which she draws on for artistic concepts and is a self-taught artist. She has been painting since childhood and exhibiting and selling art professionally since 2010. Amy started her professional career painting contemporary abstracted landscapes in acrylic (later incorporating metal leaf). Her landscapes are inspired by the beauty of the natural world, consider the Gaia Hypothesis, and how the local landscape influences its surrounding culture. To say she loves wine and coffee would be an understatement. Her obsession with both has slowly spilled over into her arts practice and prompted her to experiment with subjects and mediums – eventually developing into the coffee and wine art you see today.
