White Poppies Print

This painting was actually inspired by another of mine that I painted in Watercolour some years ago. I just wanted to make a modern interpretation of that, as it was quite a traditional painting. I started by drawing an outline similar to the watercolour, and it took quite some time to evolve it into the finished painting here. As I was putting brush on canvas it reminded me also of the fireworks back in Malta. In fact the two upright stems are symbolic of the fireworks going up in the sky before they explode into the magnificent display of colours that are Maltese fireworks. Although the original poppies where brilliant white, I wanted to add pink to them to make a more modern looking contrast to the overall painting. I also dripped paint from a lot of places to not only give it a more contemporary look but again to mimic the remnants of the fireworks as they die and fall onto the fields. I was also quite pleased with the movement that is present in the finished painting.
