About The Artwork

One aspect of Fauvism I had yet to explore was the rejection of traditional three dimensional space and instead, using flat areas or patches of colour to create a different pictorial space. This was my first attempt and was snapped up on auction in aid of 'Riding for the Disabled'. I plan a lot more in this vein this year. Although originally unintentional, I have to admit to a growing common inspiration with Fauvism in my 2022/23 direction. Although my own creativity is unique and very 2020's in comparison, I share the early 20th century ideals of the likes of Matisse, de Vlaminck, Moreau and Derain, namely that, above all, they valued individual expression; the artist's direct experience of his subjects, his emotional response to nature, and his intuition were all more important than academic theory or elevated subject matter. The Fauvists techniques of applying bold, bright, often non-naturalistic, colours and fierce, spontaneous brushwork came naturally when addressing the subjects in this portfolio. I only correlated the association later.

Multiple international award winning artist. Unlocked to make a difference. BR longs to create, not replicate. He aims to be visually disruptive. He is an Impact Impressionist. BR is a largely self-educated artist who has been painting in oils for many years. However, only since his retirement from business life in 2020 has he pursued an artistic public persona. He immediately began winning international online awards for his work created since then and local collectors have taken note. He has unearthed multiple influencers he can draw on, but only for their creativity, and not for style. He is fiercely determined to create and not replicate either images or other artists.  BR’s subjects are predominantly land/seascapes, endangered wildlife, other animals and portraits. He chooses what intrigues him for a variety of reasons, researches the subject, and then creates a unique image from multiple stimuli. He pursues his creative passion in 3 forms, all of which he collectively describes as Impact Impressionism. Firstly, BR reflects his version of impressionism on unique curved and shaped canvases he designs for each artwork himself – creating a 3D effect which is regrettably difficult to merchandise in photographs.  Then, his personal energy liberation - abstract expressionism with subject retention. He also paints in an impressionistic style on traditional flat canvases.
