About The Artwork

One of my earliest memories is being sat in front of the unofficial babysitter of the house..the T.V. and being taken into other realms of fantasy, fact and/or fiction. North America, the U.S.A in particular formed a very large part of these places and very quickly I was ripe for departing. My love of all things 'Merican grew over the years; music, fashion, art, celebrity etc. and it became the "must go" place to be. But over the years this love affair has waned somewhat and with the passing of time and recent events I have been able to form possibly (?) a more adult view of "The States" and it's not pretty, as are not the States. The American Dream, for me, is sadly like the feeling that you get after falling asleep in the sun and waking abruptly; foggy, muddled and grey. This set of pictures is my exploration of my divorce from the American Dream. Divorcees maybe, but I still love going there for occasional illicit sex.

I'm a British artist and Art Educator now located in Nova Scotia, Canada. My roots are firmly in the popular culture of the 20th Century and I use references from film, TV and music and icons from that era but also reference or juxtapose them using text. I'm a fan of "Lowbrow" artists such as Robert Williams, Coop etc. but also cross-reference these stylistically with Warhol, Twombley, Rauschenberg, Johns, Rosenquist, Lichtenstein etc. I am multi-disciplinary in my practice with a leaning towards print making and collage. Although my prints are usually limited to one-offs, I am able to print others as requested. Maybe different colours, multiples on different papers etc. The answer (usually) is Yes, now let's just see how we can get it done.
