About The Artwork
In Japanese Zen temples, windows are used to represent Zen philosophy, to compare to a real view, and to help to make architecture complete. The rectangular window is named “the window of bewilderment”, and the rectangle shape expresses a humans’ life. The four corners of the rectangle express four pains people cannot avoid in their lives: to be born, to get old, to get sick and to die. Yoshirou's house has the rectangular windows to capture the scenery from his garden and sprawling mountains. In this painting, you see whole scenery and windowed scenery, which Yoshirou squared in (please see picture). The painting depicts the scenery and reflects Yosirou's life when he was viewing the scenery through the window. Yoshirou captured the scenery hues and his suffeting with black ink. yellow paints have cracks due to painting technique. best to be framed. Yoshirou Arisumi was born and worked in Fukuoka, Japan (1900-1990). He studied under 3 prominent Japanese artists and self-taught in 1930's Paris. His works contains traditional Japanese painting, oil, water color, and sculpture. Though he got the inspirations from landscape, city-scape, and nature, he used different medium, styles, and methods to express. Later he traveled extensively in southern Japan and Okinawa and painted landscapes and portraits.
