A&P Hard Edge Print - Limited Edition of 10

Mr. Martin was one of the early color photographers, having exhibited his work in New York in the 1970's, when few photographers would venture into the medium and almost no galleries would show it. Mr. Martin at that time, processed his film and printed the images in his own darkroom for complete control. This is one of his early "classic" photographs. Photographed in 1979, it takes it's inspiration from hard edge painting of the 1960's. In this case, the composition was the windows of an A&P supermarket in lower Manhattan. Mr. Martin likes to find subjects that just happen to be together, remind him of something, or are humorous in some way. Frequently, visual interest and meaning are created through camera placement and composition. The relationship and meaning would not exist without the medium of photography or the trained eye and conceptualization of the photographer. This image was one of fifteen chosen for an extensive feature article about Mr. Martin's work in the second is sue of the magazine Color, published in July of 2009. The original is one of 10 plus two artists proofs. It was photographed with a medium format camera, the negative scanned, and the print made on 22X17 inch Epson Exhibition Fiber paper. There is a one inch border on the right and left and a 3.5 inch border on the top and bottom. The images is titled and numbered on the lower left, and signed and dated on the lower right, in archival pen. The print is a pristine new print made on a professional digital printer with archival pigment inks, which have a longevity in excess of 100 years before noticeable fading will occur.
