About The Artwork

Anaphora: The repetition of these layered, multiple exposures brings to mind the rhetorical device of Anaphora. Their prickly nature subsumes under spring's soft, glowing blush. Belgian Linen Gallery Wrap: A ready-to-hang, Limited Edition on Belgian Linen. This exceptional, ecologically sustainable material imbues the photographic image with elegance, depth and superb saturation. Manufactured for centuries, archival Belgian Linen (certified at 100+ years longevity) has been favored by painters including Monet, Van Gogh and Dali. The finished display appearance emphasizes a painterly presence within the photographic work -- a balance I have long sought to capture. I am very pleased to now offer a gallery wrap piece with remarkable artistic refinement. Unlike a coarser canvas surface, Belgian Linen retains the elegance and timeless character of traditional European fine art papers. The gallery wrap requires no additional framing, expenses or difficult wall adjustments. Edition of 5 + 1 A/P and 1 P/P. Printed exclusively for the artist by Brooklyn Editions' Master Printmaker, New York City. Gallery wrap on Belgian Linen 425 gsm by Breathing Color (certified Masters of Linen, Belgium), with Certificate of Authenticity. Archival pigment inks printed with Epson P20000. Linen mounted on wooden frame, with mirrored image, wrap-around edges (1.5" edge width), for a seamless floating appearance.

PRÉCIS + PROCESS + PAST-PRESENT: PRÉCIS: Light continuously shifts and suffuses. Never quite known, light occasions fresh perspectives for the attentive eye. Photography for me inhabits a space somewhere between poetry and motion picture film, my primary areas of advanced training. INSPIRATION: As many of my recent photos were taken in New York, I sometimes reflect upon the wisdom of gifted New York photographer, Saul Leiter. Leiter suggests, "there are things that are out in the open, and there are things that are hidden, and life has more to do, the real world has to do, with the things that are hidden. You think?" I offer my recent work in a spirit of discovery, a search for "the things that are hidden." PRINTMAKING PROCESS: Signature editions printed exclusively for the artist by Brooklyn Editions' Master Printmaker, New York City. PAST-PRESENT: I grew up as an artist, and gradually branched into other media. Crossing boundaries and investigating form naturally extend my creative and writerly output. Earlier, I worked on aesthetics with late philosopher Jean-François Lyotard. Temporal and phase transitions -- chemical, Kantian, disjunctive -- and a delight in the process of naming inform and inflect my work.
