About The Artwork

The architecture of this monument is an homage to modernity that produced intense criticism at the time of its construction: a casing of industrial iron that has become an icon of one of the most romantic cities in the world. This piece attempts to show outside the branched durability around an almost sentimental image of what for many symbolizes the most sublime in a feeling that transcends time: love. Inside the most iconic statue in the city of Paris which, in the first postcards was painted by hand, and which continues to be photographed over a century later. At the borders the iron structure is seen from different interior angles. Name: Eiffel. Author: Marina Morris Uruchurtu. Technique: Digital composition from large angle shots. Location: Paris, France. Date of original photographs: October 2012. Date of composition: 2016

In my story, my first wide-angle lens was integrated into my photographic equipment at the turn of the century, in 2001. This started my collection of Postales Circulares (Circular postcards) that fluctuate around the circular. The “fisheye” or wide-angle lens has been called a different view of the world. To be able to capture ancient places and change them through a different way of looking that makes them look like a place never seen before excepting by my lens and me. My call to analogue photography began at age 11 when my grandmother gave me a camera. My quest began with the aim of taking well-framed photos with good illumination. During my visits to different countries my photos were always like the postcards sold in tourist stands. On returning to Mexico on analysing my photos, I felt dissatisfied with producing such a classic style. How can one change the view of the same scene without changing the everyday process of development or printing? The technique shouted at me and I obtain my first wide-angle lens. The digital age then penetrated my work and the wide-angle lens became the nourishment to discover my own style. Now, as a result of technical advances, I do not just capture the origin of my “postales” (postcards) in a different style, but my work develops from the circle that through the passage of time also reveals the importance of it’s artistic meaning, that exceeds the symbolic ambit to explain the impact of the images that I express through my gaze.
