Horse Latitudes - Limited Edition of 10 Print

It's inspired by the poem "Horse Latitudes" (The Doors) which is a Gothic work, based on the fact that when Spanish galleons found themselves in trouble at sea they would sometimes have to lighten their ballast by jettisoning their cargo of live horses. A horrific reality and mental image -but I recommend the poem and the atmospheric background effect/music. It is (I supposed) a kind of "horror movie for the ears" This was the kind of work that made The Doors a revolutionary band (in more ways than one). I think that the mental image of "horses in the water" was perhaps planted by that. It is a superimposition of two images one (a painting) and two a photograph of the surf roiling into the beech. I heavily filtered them both together to create the "illusion" of stallions on the sea charging towards the shore with ferocious equestrienne energy. I imagine them as the spirits of the horses of "Horse Latitudes" living eternally through the soul of the ocean. Perhaps their life is an eternal cycle of "Birth within the bosom of the ocean, and death upon the sandy shore. Perhaps this reflects the nature of our existence, reincarnated through each cycle to acquire more wisdom before our souls are finally released from this realm? (That is of course the essence of the Buddhist faith...) Perhaps it is simply Pareidolia, or perhaps the Buddhist notion of reincarnation is in fact our reality? These are only musings. Obviously, I cannot be any more certain about this than anyone else. Not "this side of the veil". Until then is a fascinating idea/belief to explore.
