Art Description

Photography: Digital on Other.

On the 8 of March 2017 it was a sad and heartbreaking day for Malta as the worldwide known 'Azure Window', prominently featured in the movie 'Game of Thrones', collapsed into the sea. The 92-foot-tall natural arch, made of limestone, jutted sharply off the 25-square-mile island of Gozo, one of the three islands forming the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean. During a strong storm the 'Azure Window' had finally closed, collapsing and falling into the Mediterranean Sea. Those same waves crashing against the cliff, which formed the striking window also destroyed it. Gozo had lost one of its iconic beauties. The flagship of one of the Gozitan landmarks had sunk in its same birth place. Both local and international news reported that the much promoted 'Azure Window' is no more, and only millions of photographs remain as testimony. In addition to 'Game of Thrones', it was featured in 'Clash of the Titans', NBCs 'The Odyssey', and the 2002 version of 'The Count of Monte Cristo'.
