Art Description

Photography: Ink, Found Objects, photography, gold leaf, image transfer on Paper.

My layered portraits expose the complexities of feminine identity. They challenge conventional attitudes that suppress access and diminish stature. I rescue commercial clippings from a range of vintage catalogs and embolden them with elements of Eastern iconography, Zen calligraphy, and 23k gold leafing. My women become gods.

The process that I work with is a manual image transfer process, all of my work is by hand — I do not use Photoshop or digital technology. This process results in a transparent layer within my work. It’s this transparency that’s a feature of my work.

This particular piece combines an image from 1970's fashion magazine with an image of the Hindu god, Krishna, bathing under a full moon.
