About The Artwork

Shot after the first blizzard of 2017 over Napeague Stretch in Amagansett (Route 27 to Montauk) and the Napeague State Forest with pitch pines and the non-native Japanese black pines holding the sandy soil together. The LIRR train tracks run parallel to the north and are mostly snow covered. The low lying hamlet of Napeague derives its name from the Montaukett tribe's name for "land overflowed by the sea". That was true during the Great Hurricane of 1938 when Napeague was overflowed by waves and flooded. This geometrically pleasing birdseye shot is great with neutral tones and a fantastic piece for everyone.

Growing up and living on Shelter Island, surrounded by the overwhelming natural beauty of the east end, I took to photography at a young age to capture those vistas. Developing negatives in the basement dark room with my father, I loved the artistic process from start to finish. Fast forward and I have become enchanted by views of terra firma from the air. Nature's chaos and geometry contrast and meld with each other in fascinating ways and I aim to include some local subject matter, exhibiting the vibrant colors and shapes of things and places on earth from above.
