Art Description

Photography: Color, Digital on Canvas, Paper.

Castel Sant'Angelo (Castle of the Holy Angel) was primarily the Mausoleum of Hadrian, the Roman Emperor. But the building was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle. Legend holds that the Archangel Michael appeared atop the mausoleum, sheathing his sword as a sign of the end of the plague of 590, thus lending the castle its present name. This image of the seagull on top of the Castle of the Holy Angel make me think of this very controversial and complex world of ours.
