‘Penelope’s Wake’ came to light whilst considering Margaret Atwood’s book The Penelopiad, and Elizabeth Bishop’s poem Insomnia. It continues my interest in revealing the dark elusive dichotomies of the Hero myths that build the ‘enlightenment’ of our culture. Sleepless nights. Lying awake in pins and needles. Tying and untying the knot. In threads. Longing… for He who may never return. Dawn finally embraces the horizon. Me: waiting impatient and cold. Arms wrapped tight against the dead of night. R.Wells The image are printed in 2 sizes, this is the MEDIUM size (large is 120x 85) with 25 in the edition. The images are printed directly on glass using the latest in UV digital printing by Glastrix. Glass gives are very dark rich black, with high contrast and the option of a frameless look that floats forward from the wall (frame can still be added by you if you choose). Glass is, however, reflective and therefore, like frames with glass, reflects when placed opposite a strong light source, such as a window. Glass prints come with professional mounting brackets, ready to hang. If you would prefer a paper print, the images can be printed on paper, using Kodak Metallic paper. Please contact me about this directly. The price and size would be the same, but it would be sent by tube instead of box. Stamp is embossed on back of print, numbered and hand signed. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.

I am concerned with the interpenetration of symbol, myth and language and how they spiral to reveal the contradictions between our conscious and subconscious being. The universal and the intimate; fear and desire, creation vs destruction; presence and absence; our exterior reality in contrast to our internal world. I explore these contradictions through a formal and conceptual interplay of materials, texts and images. in order to draw out of them the stark realities of our culture as well as the dark elusive dichotomies that permeate beyond boundaries towards shared existential concerns.
